SECURITY PROJECTS

Security for Paulshof as a whole is managed by area committees: Paulshof East, Paulshof West, Paulshof Central and Paulshof Ext. 10. Each area committee is represented on the Paulshof Security Project (PSP) committee headed up by Shathi Govender. Presently, we have two security service providers securing residents in Paulshof, namely iMvula and ADT. Various security projects in place include a recently approved boom-closure for the Paulshof Central area and camera operations spread throughout Paulshof, managed by iMvula.

iMvula currently has the largest presence in Paulshof providing three armed response security vehicles in the area plus various foot patrols and manned security control to Paulshof Ext. 10. These services are paid for by residents who have contracts with iMvula. The PSP committee along with the PRRA committee, is currently investigating various and improved security services for the Paulshof Community including the feasibility of contracting one security provider for the suburb of Paulshof.

SECURITY FEEDBACK – DECEMBER 2011

Paulshof Central Boom Project update

Following the announcement last year that the Paulshof Central Boom Application was approved by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) on the 15th of August 2011, we anxiously await the roll-out of the advertisements which are to be placed by the JRA in the Government Gazette and the local newspaper, the Fourways Review. Following this, two months are required to allow for any public objection, after which the erection of the closures/booms can commence. Once the adverts have been placed, the PRRA will call for a public meeting giving residents the opportunity to comment on the project.

Cameras prove effective in putting criminals behind bars

A resident of Uvongo Street was unfortunate to have experienced two incidents within several months of each other, but thanks to the cameras capturing the necessary footage, and outstanding work by the resident and the SAPS (specifically Warrant Officer MacIntosh and his team), the perpetrators were arrested. The latest incident which occurred on the 5th of January at around 3.50pm was captured on camera. The entire incident which took just under ten minutes, showed how two criminals committed the crime by lifting the gate off of its rails, removing the trailer (contents included), hooking it up to their vehicle along with the resident’s children’s bikes and driving off. The vehicle and the perpetrators (two men) were clearly shown on camera (see photos). Within a week they were arrested and the trailer returned to the resident (without the contents or bikes unfortunately). The perpetrators pleaded guilty and were each given two-year jail sentences.

No doubt, although cameras are reactive, they are playing a vital role in identifying criminals. Residents are encouraged to communicate with their immediate neighbours and put in security measures over and above what their security company is offering because ultimately, we as the community need to be vigilant and have a plan that will ensure a safer neighbourhood.
